Maryland Medical Cannabis Patient Guide
- Maryland allows qualified patients to access therapeutic cannabis through the state’s medical program. A qualifying condition and provider certification are required.
- A licensed healthcare provider must evaluate and certify you as a qualifying patient. Olga Hall, FNP-C, is a certified provider in Maryland.
- After certification, patients register with the Maryland Cannabis Administration (MCA). Olga’s team will guide you through this process step by step.
- Registered patients may purchase from any licensed Maryland dispensary. Your registration is valid for one year from the date of issue.
- Annual recertification is required to maintain your registration. Ananda makes this process simple, quick, and fully virtual.

A Clinician's Guide to Transformative
Plant Medicine Pathways
There is a profound and growing body of clinical research examining the therapeutic potential of transformative plant medicines — particularly in the context of treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, grief, end-of-life anxiety, addiction recovery, and spiritual distress. What was once relegated to the margins is now the subject of peer-reviewed research at institutions including Johns Hopkins, NYU, and Imperial College London.
As a clinician, Olga approaches this landscape with both deep curiosity and clinical responsibility. She believes patients deserve medically accurate, compassionate information about these emerging pathways — free from stigma, misinformation, or unnecessary gatekeeping
What the Research Suggests
- A growing body of peer-reviewed evidence supports the use of psilocybin-assisted therapy for treatment-resistant depression, with several landmark studies showing significant and durable symptom reduction after one to two sessions
- Clinical trials at Johns Hopkins, MAPS, NYU, and Imperial College London have demonstrated meaningful outcomes in PTSD, addiction, grief processing, and end-of-life anxiety
- Neuroimaging research suggests that transformative plant medicines may promote neuroplasticity, disrupting entrenched thought and behavioral patterns that underlie many chronic mental health conditions
- Integration — the therapeutic work done before and after a medicine experience — is considered central to durable outcomes by most clinical researchers in this field
How Ananda Supports This Journey
- Medical screening consultation to review your health history, medications, and any contraindications
- Evidence-based education on what the current science does — and does not — support
- Harm reduction framework and preparation guidance for those choosing to pursue these pathways
- Discussion of set, setting, intention, and integration — the four pillars of a supported experience
- Referral to vetted integration therapists and clinical facilitators where appropriate
- Post-experience wellbeing check-in and follow-up support
Common Patient Questions
Have a question not covered here? Reach out — Olga's team is happy to help before you book.
Do I need an existing diagnosis to be evaluated?
Not necessarily. Olga conducts a thorough clinical evaluation to determine whether you may qualify based on your symptoms and medical history. Having records or documentation of any relevant conditions is helpful but not always required to get started.
Is this visit confidential?
How long does the process take from evaluation to registry?
After your evaluation, certification documentation is typically issued promptly. State registration timing varies, but Olga will walk you through every step and remain available for questions throughout the process.
Do you accept insurance?
Ananda currently accepts cash pay for all services. We are in the process of credentialing with select insurance providers. Contact us to ask about current coverage options for your specific plan.
Can I use my certification at any Maryland dispensary?
Yes — once certified and registered with the Maryland Cannabis Administration, you can purchase from any licensed dispensary in the state. Olga can help you understand your options and what to expect.
What if I'm new to plant medicine and don't know where to start?
That’s exactly what Ananda is for. Olga’s approach is educational and non-judgmental. You’re welcome to submit an inquiry form or simply book a consultation — no prior experience or knowledge is required.
What is a recertification visit?
Maryland requires annual renewal of your medical registration. A recertification visit is a shorter, focused session with Olga to review your health status and renew your certification documentation for another year.
Are herbal and mushroom consultations separate from evaluations?
Yes — herbal, functional mushroom, and transformative wellness consultations are standalone services. They can be booked independently or in conjunction with any other visit.
What does the Transformative Wellness Consultation involve?
This is a thorough, confidential medical consultation for patients who are curious about or preparing for a transformative plant medicine experience. Olga screens for medical contraindications, provides evidence-based education, and offers harm reduction guidance. Ananda does not facilitate or provide access to controlled substances — this is a medical consultation and preparation service.
